mountain valley park and four-plex

Prescott Valley , Arizona
Town of Prescott Valley
2000

This 69-acre town sports and park complex is a central recreational hub in fast-growing Prescott Valley. Located next to a public elementary school and the Yavapai County Boys and Girls Club, the park is a popular destination for children and we designed the master plan with them in mind. The complex includes a soccer field, six baseball diamonds, amphitheater, public pool, picnic areas and ponds. We worked with the town to create irrigation and enhancement studies for the complex and went on to design improvements for the playground and ball field four-plex.

Our design creates a collective appearance by standardizing restroom, shade structure and pavilion design. Covered entry nodes create an entrance control point and an inviting space for information, concessions and event ticket sales. Masonry, a metal shade structure and park signs create an architectural entry statement, supported by an entry-scape that opens views from the roadway into the park. Walkways and bike paths are linked to the town trail system. The design would slow erosion by restoring pond banks and grassy areas with native grass and wildflowers. An urban forest with a seasonal theme would replace dead or missing trees and create a massed look. Other plantings would create visual screens and wind breaks. Our study also analyzed auto and pedestrian connection/circulation and drop-off.
