ken lindley complexPrescott, Arizona This 1931 Works Progress Administration (WPA) community sports complex lies within the Prescott Armory Historic District. It includes two ball fields, tennis courts, concessions and a park and is located among several historic city sites. We developed a landscape design in association with the city’s historic restoration of the site. We delved into the area’s rich history for layout references and to determine a plant selection that would reflect historic, cultural and ecological aesthetics. Trees and vine wall-covers shade the southwest-facing exposure and frame the striking art deco entrance. Shrubs and trees line the stadium side walls and screen a busy roadway from the walkway. Trees that have matured above the southwest-facing wall now shade the uppermost seats of the grandstand. |
