ken lindley complex

Prescott, Arizona
City of Prescott
1999

This 1931 Works Progress Administration (WPA) community sports complex lies within the Prescott Armory Historic District. It includes two ball fields, tennis courts, concessions and a park and is located among several historic city sites. We developed a landscape design in association with the city’s historic restoration of the site.

We delved into the area’s rich history for layout references and to determine a plant selection that would reflect historic, cultural and ecological aesthetics. Trees and vine wall-covers shade the southwest-facing exposure and frame the striking art deco entrance. Shrubs and trees line the stadium side walls and screen a busy roadway from the walkway. Trees that have matured above the southwest-facing wall now shade the uppermost seats of the grandstand.
