alpine villas condominiums at hassayampa golf club

Prescott , Arizona
Centex Homes
2005

This upscale, high-density neighborhood is an island in the middle of the Hassayampa Golf Course. The owners wanted to renovate the landscape to reflect the high standards of the luxury golf community.

We located thousands of plants and developed a model landscape that may be expanded as condominium units are added. Our design greatly manipulates run-off from the site and adjacent golf course to create wetland plantings. A primary challenge was a broad, shallow boggy area that was once dry ground. A dam created by a man-made lake wall and sand fill created a basin where golf course turf and area run-off collected. Cattails and clump grasses took over, choking off native alligator juniper and Arizona white oaks.

Our design creates a natural-looking drainage by minimizing the size of the area holding run-off and quickly redirecting it to the lake and new channels that drain the boggy basin. The area was revegetated thorough reseeding and mulching. A portion of the cattails and grass were transplanted to maintain existing wildlife habitat and increase the natural look, breaking the visual edge of rock channels and the new basin. We developed slope stabilization themes and adjusted the plant palette to be more lush, while still drought tolerant.
